Abi Lee is a young up-and-coming pianist, composer, and, improviser. Born to Korean parents, she grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. Abi has relocated to Melbourne, drawn by her love of Australian Jazz. Since the age of 5, her love for piano and music has always been a driving force for her, which led her to study under Andrea Keller. Abi has been awarded several scholarships and awards such as the Will Poskitt Piano Scholarship, the Graham Coyle Award and the Lady Turner Prize.
With a broad focus on improvisation, Abi’s compositions are mostly inspired by significant events in her life. Abi and her trio perfectly capture these moments with their shared love for music and musicality influenced by Keith Jarrett, Andrea Keller, and Mike Nock.
The night will be filled with storytelling tunes with a hint of free improvisation with Jack Smythe (bass), Alex Siderov (drums) and as a special guest, Billie Raffety who is a Tasmanian, singer, composer, and improviser adding her soaring voice into the sound.
