MJC PRESENTS

The Andy Watts Quartet blends jazz, afrobeat, and psychedelic sounds to create a unique musical experience.

Andy Watts, a trumpet and cornet player, grew up in a musical family in New Zealand. Influenced by jazz, dub, and afrobeat, he played with groups like dDub and The Hot Grits before moving to London. There, he joined the London Afrobeat Collective and collaborated with artists such as Dele Sosimi, deepening his knowledge of afrobeat and jazz.

During the pandemic, Andy started experimenting with sound and effects pedals, leading to his debut album The Way Back From Here, released in February 2024. The album reflects the struggles of the pandemic, his meditation practice, and a hopeful outlook for the future.

Critics have praised the album, noting its bold combination of guitar solos, Afrobeat rhythms, jazz melodies, and electronic textures. The Andy Watts Quartet continues to perform in the UK and Europe, while working on new material for their next project.
