A powerhouse unit of rare intimacy, flexibility and intensity, BELIEVE connects the spectrum of contemporary creative sound making with the fluid, anything is possible momentum of free jazz. When your benchmarks are Albert Ayler and The Necks, and you intend to play for the universe, not the algorithm, the remarkable is possible. For the past three years this Sydney-based quartet has committed to a musical process of learning, exploring, experimenting and growing in public. No other local group has been so committed to playing live. This performance marks their Melbourne debut, and the launch of their first album ‘Spirits Of The Dead Are Watching’ – the first of a two-volume album release, in collaboration with New York’s Relative Pitch and Melbourne’s Ramble Records. Comprising four of the most innovative artists in the Sydney scene, with Peter Farrar (alto saxophone & percussion), Novak Manojlovic (piano & percussion), Clayton Thomas (double bass & percussion) and Laurence Pike (drums & percussion).
