Harry Lye Quartet

Harry is a vibraphonist, singer, and percussionist who has been weaving through the fringes of Melbourne’s jazz, cabaret, and folk scenes since 1995. He is also a sideman to luminaries including Floyd Thursby, The Ang Fang Quartet, and Flying Home.

Equally inspired by Tom Waits, Lionel Hampton, Dr John and Bing Crosby, Harry’s songwriting drifts across absurdist swing polkas, post romantic travel waltz brochures, tidal jazz ballads, seasonal poetry and bittersweet country flavoured blues. Celebrated US vibraphonist Steve Hobbs said of Harry’s song Tide “Wow!!! You are not a parrot! Your stuff is fresh. Love everything about it…the melody, the lyrics, your singing, your accompanying, and your solo! Keep them coming!”

Harry’s live shows are a rare and intimate cabaret, with the songs carefully crafted to allow plenty of space for evocative and conversational improvisation from all members of the band.
