Jazz Tupiniquim is a Perth-based group of Brazilian instrumental music, influenced by several genres such as Choro, Samba, Bossa-Nova, as well as artists such as Hermeto Pascoal, Pixinguinha, Tom Jobim, and others. The group seeks to present the true essence of Brazilian music, mixing traditional rhythms with sophisticated melodies, and fusing with elements of jazz and improvisation.
Jazz Tupiniquim consists of a unique instrumentation – with Australian Violinist Emily Gelineau bringing her jazz background, influenced by musicians such as Stephane Grappelli & Forró violinist Nicolas Krassik; the Accordion, with Brazilian Danilo da Paz’s influences of Dominguinhos and Richard Galliano, along with the popular 7-string Guitar and Drums.
Having performed at prestigious events such as the Perth International Jazz Festival, the United Nations Gala Australia, JazzConnect Festival, Wally’s Jazz Club (USA), and performing with prominent Brazilian music artists such as Ian Coury, Hamilton de Holanda and Toninho Ferragutti, the group is honoured to present their first event in Melbourne at the JazzLab.
