Michael J Brady Trio
Guitarist Michael J Brady weaves melodies between the guitar, double bass, and drum set. With drummer Ryu Kodama and bassist Oscar Peterson, the trio explores the beautiful corners of each instrument through dynamic builds and effects. Brady draws influence widely from guitarists-guitarists like Julian Lage and Tony Rice, and Australian Jazz artists like Alister Spence and Sandy Evans. The trio have toured Australia’s east coast, and performed alongside artists such as Evans, Stella Anning (MEL), Flora Carbo (VIC), and Sasha Gavlek (TAS).
In March the trio are kicking off a 10 date national tour to support the release of their new single – Bouquet. They will be travelling across state lines to return to Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, and Melbourne, and making their debut Perth performance. In NSW they will be travelling to Newcastle, Katoomba, and Kiama making, concluding with a hometown Sydney show. During their tour, they will be sharing bills with artists such as Matt Smith (WA), Maeve Grieve (VIC), The Liv Uebergang Trio (ACT), and ZEAL (NSW).
Support Act – Maeve Grieve
Originally from Tasmania, Maeve Grieve is a Melbourne based singer, song-writer and guitarist. Her debut EP, Midnight Commute, was released on the 13th of November. Blending jazz, folk, and alternate rock styles, this EP features narrative songwriting interwoven with complex but catchy guitar arrangements. Featuring four songs, it is a raw and introspective work, swirling with themes of journeys, change, night time and longing – all personal and outward reflections from a young emerging artist. It draws inspiration from such varied artists as Fiona Apple, Madison Cunningham, Joni Mitchell and Radiohead. Over recent years, Maeve has performed regularly throughout Melbourne, most notably at the 2023 Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival, where as a recipient of the New Frontiers Award for an Outstanding Jazz Graduate at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, she performed to a full house at the JazzLab. Maeve looks forward to sharing her debut work with audiences at live shows throughout 2025
Presented by the Melbourne Jazz Co-operative, with funding assistance from Creative Australia and Music Australia.
