MJC Presents: Green/O’Connor/Svoboda – (Bris/Mel) Album Launch

Helen Svoboda (double bass), Tim Bekavac Green (drums and cymbals) and Joe O’Connor (piano) celebrate the launch of ‘Time Together, Time Apart’ an album of improvisation released by New York label 577 Records in May. The album was recorded in 2019 at a time when the musicians lived in different cities, across two continents (with Green still based in Brisbane).

Though the trio had only played together a handful of times prior to the session, the music exudes trust and understanding, and a willingness to be open and vulnerable. ‘Time Together, Time Apart’ is an expression of friendship – a collective endeavor that makes us more than we can be alone. For their MJC performance, Svoboda/O’Connor/Green will continue to explore their song-like concept of ensemble improvisation, using various open-ended prompts to set the musical flow in motion.
