TONY GOULD’S 85th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Sunday, February 2, 2025 @ 3:00 pm
Doors open at 2:30 pm
This special concert is a celebration of the 85th birthday – and ongoing career – of the highly regarded pianist/composer/educator Dr. Tony Gould. Gould is possibly the most ‘formally’ recognised figure to work in the Australian jazz scene (although he refers to his music as “post-jazz”), with an Australia Council Fellowship, the Don Banks Fellowship in 2009 (as well as an Order of Australia), plus the 2011 Australian Jazz Award “Hall of Fame”. For this occasion, he is joined by Sam Anning (double bass) and Joseph Batrouney (drums) to play two sets with different combinations of guests, who include Angela Davis (alto saxophone) and Carl Mackey (tenor saxophone), as well as the masterful guitarist Stephen Magnusson, and some special guests.
Presented by the Melbourne Jazz Co-operative, with funding assistance from Creative Australia and Music Australia
