Two & Two – Ikigai & Mortlake

Featuring two duo sets:
Ikigai: Niran Dasika (trumpet) & Ollie Hanane (drum set)
Mortlake: Callum Mintzis (trombone) & Theo Carbo (guitar)

IKIGAI is the duo project of trumpeter Niran Dasika and drummer Oliver Ledi Hanane. The duo explores the inherent qualities within their respective playing styles, adapting and translating the uniqueness of the other onto their own instrument, in an improvisational dialogue. The sonic spaces they create tend to be both dense with rhythmical cascades and ostinato patterns, as well as allowing space for soloistic moments to emerge. The duo also experiment with non-verbal modes of communicating to instigate change or to augment their musical approaches.

MORTLAKE is the collaborative sum of Callum Mintzis and Theo Carbo. Built on a longstanding, cherished friendship, the duo has been writing and recording music for over five years, most of which is unreleased. MORTLAKE values process, quality, and relationship as a basis for authentic creativity. Their shared and contrasting interests create an unpredictable, transient musical world. Their first EP was released in 2022, a film score for ‘The Baga.’
