Adelaide’s premier French musical act Lou Blackwell and the French Set is celebrating Bastille Day at JAZZLAB this year with their stellar showcase of the great French songbook.

After embodying the legendary French chanteuse Juliette Gréco in her award-winning cabaret show LOVE ON THE LEFT BANK for the 2022 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, celebrated singer Lou Blackwell brings together some of Adelaide’s finest jazz musicians featuring renowned musical director and composer Mark Simeon Ferguson on piano, Julian Ferraretto on violin, Thomas Pulford on saxophone and clarinet, Dylan Paul on double bass and Kyrie Anderson on drums to deliver an authentic, top-notch performance of songs from the great ‘variété française’ French popular song tradition.

Louise and the band will pay homage to many wonderful French singers and songwriters: Charles Trenet, Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens, Boris Vian, Yves Montand, Edith Piaf, Serge Gainsbourg, Barbara, Charles Aznavour and more…and in so doing, conjure up the great concert halls of Paris where so many of these legendary entertainers once performed.

Lou lived in Paris for many years where she studied jazz singing with Sara Lazarus and Michèle Hendricks, and then went on to perform and record in the Paris jazz scene with her trio featuring French jazz pianist Vincent Bourgeyx.

Bringing her love of this cultural city back home, Lou Blackwell and the French Set have performed in all the major French events in South Australia, winning Fringe awards and packing out venues like the Wheatsheaf and the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel for their annual Bastille concerts. They are delighted to be returning to Melbourne to celebrate la fête de la Bastille at JAZZLAB!
