Nick Haywood, Colin Hopkins and Niko Schäuble first performed together as a trio in 2003, where ABC Classic FM’s Jazztrack recorded their debut performance at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club. There was an instant connection between the players and they have been developing their sound ever since. The groups has recorded several albums over this time, the last being with visiting American vocalist, Petra Haden.

The trio play original repertoire and some lesser known tunes by other composers, and never discuss arrangements, tempos or grooves prior to performing, resulting in fresh, exciting collaborative improvising.

Don’t miss this all too rare performance of the Nick Haywood Trio.

“This splendid album from Nick Haywood (bass), Colin Hopkins (piano) and Niko Schauble (drums), features lyrical compositions chiefly by Haywood, stirring versions of three pop tunes, and impressive exercises in free improvisation.” – Eric Myers, The Weekend Australian

“The parts are mutually independent but constantly in dialogue – a keen reminder of the maturity and mutual respect between these musicians.” – Christopher Hale, The Music Trust

“Many tunes here, including originals, are actually quite simple but what this band does is layer them with complexity. Their gift is that rare ability. It’s the capacity to draw listeners in and take them on a journey” – Leon Gettler, The Age
