The baritone saxophone is greatly under-represented in contemporary improvised music, so this MJC debut by Tim Stocker will partially redress this. This performance will feature original compositions from Tim’s album “The View From Here”, recorded in New York City, along with some newer tunes that have been kept in the vault. Tim has had a roundabout trip to arrive in Melbourne after growing up in Albury, studying at the Sydney Con, moving to NYC, then London, then Singapore and arriving in Melbourne in time for the Pandemic. Having recorded on Vanesa Perica’s latest album, “The Eye is the First Circle”, and playing the release show for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival in 2023, Tim is starting to build a strong profile on the scene. Tim Stocker (baritone saxophone & effects) performs with a strong rhythm section of Darrin Archer (piano), Harry Morrison (double bass) and Felix Bloxsom (drums).

“Tim is a true baritone player with a deep understanding of the sound and possibilities of the instrument. He highlights the baritone’s lyricism while avoiding melodic cliches. He is a special musician” – ROGER ROSENBERG, Baritone Saxophonist NYC (Steely Dan, Bob Mintzer Big Band)
