Reverse Swing is a well-honed Melbourne based ensemble.

It was initially formed by guitarist John Scurry in the early 2000s to revisit, with a contemporary bent, swing inspired small group acoustic jazz. It takes its repertoire and inspirations from a broad and idiosyncratic musical palette, essentially early and mid-century jazz, standards and popular and contemporary music.

Over the years the band has developed a strong focus on introducing and performing new original works which now comprise a significant part of its ongoing repertoire. With two CD albums “Post Matinee” (2016) and ”Early Risers” (2020) Reverse Swing in late December 2023 recorded a new, yet to be released double CD album with compositions by John Scurry and arrangements by Eugene Ball.

The new CD and digital download − nominally titled “Aerogramme” − is intended for release on Lionsharecords in mid-2024.

On the new album, in addition to the regular band, are Stephen Grant (alto sax), Pierre Jaquinot (guitar) and Julien Wilson (tenor sax).
Matt Boden and Sam Keevers share the piano chair.

Tonight Reverse Swing will be: Eugene Ball (trumpet), Brennan Hamilton-Smith (reeds), James Macaulay (trombone), Sam Keevers (piano), Howard Cairns (double bass), Danny Fischer (drums) and John Scurry (guitar)
