Julien Wilson / Carl Dewhurst Quartet
Sunday, November 1, 2026 @ 7:30 pm
Doors open at 7:00 pm

Julien Wilson (saxophone) and Carl Dewhurst (guitar) met in 1994 and have been playing together ever since. They are two of Australia’s most in-demand and highly regarded performers on their respective instruments. For ten years they toured together with the AAO. For the last twenty years Carl has been playing with Julien’s Sydney quartet a couple of times a year.
More recently they have been working on a co-led project which focusses on a shared passion for rhythmic devices for composition and improvisation. They are both direct and energetic performers and deep listeners who have experience playing the blues, funk, free improvisation, and various jazz styles, but manage to bring all their influences together in their own music. Earlier this year they played at Milton Festival in March with Hamish Stuart and Stu Hunter and played a season of gigs in June in Sydney and Melbourne with Simon Barker, Cameron Undy, Sam Bates, Scott Tinkler, Yunior Terry and Ebs Daramola.
For this performance, supported and presented by the Melbourne Jazz Co-op, they will perform a selection of original music with Sam Bates (drums) and James Gilligan (electric bass).
