Takadimi (India/Aotearoa/NZ)

Takadimi- the night will feature an energetic Indo-Jazz Fusion performance by Auckland’s Takadimi band, a group known for its genre-defying experiments with rhythm and harmony.

The fusion set will include Daljeet Kaur (vocals), Manjit Singh (tabla), Alan Brown (keys), Denholm Orr (bass) and Nigel Gavin (Guitar).  Together, they create a soundscape where the intricate cycles of Indian tala blend seamlessly with the fluidity of jazz improvisation and Western harmonic textures.

“The beauty of fusion,” says Manjit Singh, “is that it creates a space where cultures converse without compromise. It is both meditative and playful, and we hope the audience will feel that energy.”

Takadimi’s performance is expected to push sonic boundaries while staying grounded in the aesthetics of Indian classical music
