Leading Melbourne jazz identity pianist Steve Sedergreen alongside James Clark on bass and Rod Gilbert on drums are thrilled to be performing at The Jazz Lab with these special guests and eclectic celebrated musicians.
“Steve brings to every performance a spirit of inclusiveness and his focus has always been on collective endeavour…his passion for jazz as an artform that unites, engages and entertains…” – Jessica Nicholas, The Age, May 2018.
More on Wilbur Wilde, James Ryan and Toby Mak:
Wilbur Wilde is a stalwart of the local jazz & rock scene, bringing to the stage an infectious enthusiasm and always playing in the spirit of the great tenor players. James Ryan is a major force in the Sydney scene – know best for his work with The Subterraneans, a first-rate jazz funk outfit made up of Sydney’s best players “…built around the virtuosity of veterans James Ryan…this is jazz/funk played at the highest level by musicians who completely understand the genre”. Weekend Australian Review May 2025. Toby Mak for a time played in Steve’s Mistaken Identity – which for years was a powerhouse of contemporary jazz playing across the country and earning an APRA nomination. Toby has resided in Shanghai for the last 20 years where he played with jazz artists such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Chris Potter, Mark Turner – to name a few. He has also released a few recordings including a tribute to former mentor Gil Askey (Motown).
Needless to say this will be a night of exceptionally spirited, engaging and entertaining jazz. A one-off show not to be missed!
