Described by JAZZ TIMES as “Perhaps THE most innovative straight-ahead jazz guitarist to emerge in years,” and named one of the greatest living jazz guitarists in The Great Jazz Guitarists by Scott Yanow, Rory Stuart is a critically acclaimed jazz guitarist and composer based in New York who has performed around the world.
In addition to leading his own groups, he has collaborated with a remarkable range of legendary musicians, from Brother Jack McDuff and Charlie Rouse to Steve Coleman’s band featuring Geri Allen and Cassandra Wilson, as well as his own students Becca Stevens and Robert Glasper.
A renowned educator, Stuart has “influenced a whole generation of jazz” (Rachel Z). He has directed jazz workshops in Singapore, Italy, and Korea, received Fulbright Scholar awards twice, and authored the definitive book series on rhythm (therhythmbooks.com).
His upcoming recordings as a leader feature artists including John Ellis, Jason Palmer, Micah Thomas, Helen Sung, Matt Penman, and Obed Calvaire.
Don’t miss his debut performance at The JazzLab on June 10th where he will present original music alongside Jordan Tarento (bass), Mat Jodrell (trumpet) and Darryn Farrugia (drums).
